Dr. Ambrish Mithal is one of the most renowned names in the field of Endocrinology and a widely respected thought leader in the medical community. He currently serves as the Chairman and Head of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Max Healthcare, a role he has held since December 2019. Prior to this, he was the Chairman, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Medanta – The Medicity (2009–2019), where he led and expanded the department significantly. His earlier associations include Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow.

Dr. Mithal completed his MBBS (1980) and MD (1984) from Kanpur University, followed by a DM in Endocrinology (1987) from AIIMS, New Delhi. He was also a Fogarty Fellow at Harvard Medical School (1993–94), further strengthening his global clinical and research exposure.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to medicine, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2015, India’s third-highest civilian honor. His international recognition includes the Endocrine Society (USA) International Excellence in Endocrinology Award (2020) and the Laureate Award (2021). Among his other prestigious accolades are the International Osteoporosis Foundation President’s Award (2016) and the Dr. B.C. Roy Award (2017) presented by the President of India.

Dr. Mithal has also played a key role in public health policy and governance. He has been nominated to the Governing Council of the National Health Authority, contributing to India’s population health initiatives, and serves as the Honorary President of AIIMS, Gorakhpur."
